Lock down cage in Mookie's room
(various views of design)
Mookie is now living in his new room!!
Mookie sitting on his
lockdown cage
Below are the results of Mookie learning to enter and exit
his lock down cage on cue. He was encouraged to enter lock down "in" to
receive a special treat he does not normally get. I use the words "in" and
"out" as verbal teaching tools. I also place "Prima Treats" in the yellow
ball for him to manipulate while he is in this cage and the sliding door
is locked shut, preventing him from exiting it. Within two days of
"training" Mookie goes in the lock down cage on cue and calmly remains in
it with the door locked. He enters this cage on his own in addition to
when I ask him to go "in". He will stay in the cage with the door open
until I say "out" also. Mookie does not usually tolerate confinement well,
so his behavior regarding the lock down cage training is very encouraging
to me.
